We are all souls from a divine source. Nearly every religion shares this belief. Although practices differ, this truth remains foundational.

Imagine your soul as the core of your essence. It never changes — even beyond this life. It is your connection to divinity. Your soul comes from a higher being, pure love itself.

Yet in today’s modern world, we’ve lost our awareness of that truth. We have shifted our motivation from love to fear. Fear now dictates most people’s actions.

Look at ancient texts written thousands of years ago:

  • Bible: The most repeated phrase is “Fear not,” appearing over 100 times (Isaiah 41:10 — “Fear thou not; for I am with thee…” Luke 2:10 — “Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings.”)

  • Buddha: “By love alone is hatred healed.”

  • Bhagavad Gita: “The path of devotion and love leads to liberation. The path of ignorance and fear leads to suffering.”

  • Dao De Jing: “Courage comes from love; paralysis comes from fear.”

Fear affects our inner light — (spirit, energy, and consciousness) — which surrounds our soul. We are born with a beautiful, bright inner light, but for many of us, it dwindles into a flicker, dampened by life’s shadows. These shadows are formed through childhood experiences — school, friendships, work — that teach us we must be right, special, or validated. We begin to feel we are not enough, as if we are constantly falling behind. We feel the need to prove our worth.

We think: “What if they don’t like me?” “What if they don’t like what I created?”

Maybe it shows up when presenting at work and feeling anxious to share your ideas.

Maybe it’s the small sting when your social media post receives little attention.

Maybe it’s resentment from feeling under-appreciated — a constant cloud dimming your light.

Or perhaps it’s the need for constant control — checking boxes to feel safe or worthy, based on what media and society have conditioned us to believe.

The heaviness of these fixed mindsets, fueled by hopelessness, despair, anger, and fear, not only minimizes our inner light (spirit, energy, and consciousness), it fortifies a metaphorical cage around us, preventing us from reaching our true potential.

What does this look like?

It becomes our safety net so we don’t get hurt. Instead of expanding into the world and seeking inspiration, we shrink ourselves because it feels safer.

Our ego, the architect of the cage, fills our minds with limiting beliefs to protect us from past pain.

We don’t raise our hand in class for fear of looking foolish. We don’t leave careers that drain us because we’re afraid of failing elsewhere. So, we remain trapped in a “safe,” unfulfilling, or stressful life.

Over time, our cage becomes so woven and intertwined, stemming from these limiting beliefs, we don't even know how to access our inner light. We forget that it’s even there.

Our ego tries to “protect” us, but in doing so, we don't live in inspiration, so emptiness resides within us. Then we attempt to fill that void — with clothes, cars, social status, endless scrolling, alcohol, or distractions. We chase external dopamine hits. And eventually, depression, anxiety, loneliness, addiction, and spiritual disconnection takes root.

We look for happiness by pursuing achievements approved by society (not our soul) so we can then present a polished report card to the word. We go to college learning materials we are not interested in. We take the "safe" hated job. We sign up our kids for every activity offered to make them involved and competitive because that is what "good" parents do. Then, we showcase this false sense of success to prove our worth... Chase Hughes, a behavioral science expert, author, and former US military Chief, once said, “Success is a good looking costume.”  Consequently, we forfeit a life filled with inspiration, peace, and love — far from what our soul truly is, which is made in the image of love and light.

When reality becomes too difficult to bear, we treat our symptoms. Medication,  breathing techniques, new daily habits— yes, they help. But they often don’t address the root cause. It’s like giving MiracleGrow to flowers that are growing in shitty soil. It’ll help temporarily, but the soil needs to be healed for lasting change.

But there is hope.

There are proven steps towards change.

We must strengthen our inner light (spirit, energy, consciousness) because it provides a direct conduit to our soul, intuition, and  divinity, which is our connection to God, the best guide there is. When you believe your soul was sent from a divine source, it becomes easier to release what no longer serves you and focus on a path that inspires you.

There will be challenges, no doubt. That is part of our journey. Instead of asking, “How do I avoid my problems?”, instead ask the question, “What can I learn from this hardship?”.  We learn and grow through error and tribulation. The best way to see the light — is in the darkness. We need this darkness, to feel it, understand it, and learn from it. Think of a flash light. When you turn it on in the dark, it’s so much more visible. The key is, not allowing darkness to consume you, but letting it illuminate the path forward.
